Congress approves ISR G550s for Australia

The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) announced that the State Department has approved the sale to Australia of up to five Gulfstream G550 aircraft, modified for the airborne intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and electronic warfare (AISREW) role.

The notification, released on 26 June, said the aircraft will have their AISREW mission systems installed by L3 at Greenville, Texas. 

The estimated cost of the deal is $1.3 billion, including the aircraft, mission systems and a GPS capability, secure communications, aircraft defensive systems, spares and support.
