Boeing announces naval SIGINT orders
Boeing will supply its naval signals intelligence systems to the US Navy and British Royal Navy under new orders announced on 1 May. Work on the maritime signals intelligence systems will be performed by Boeing subsidiary Argon ST.
The company received its first production order for the Ship’s Signal Exploitation Equipment (SSEE) Modifications programme from the US Navy; and will supply ten SSEE Increment F (SSEE-F) systems to the US Navy, four of which will be delivered to the Royal Navy as part of a Foreign Military Sales agreement.
The SSEE programme supports the tactical warfighters with critical and actionable intelligence and provides horizontal intelligence integration across all available sources.
The SSEE Increment E programme developed a Tactical Cryptologic System (TCS) which performs all signal processing functions necessary to acquire, identify, locate and analyse signals for external and internal information. SSEE-F systems augment the SSEE-E capabilities with the latest in Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), embedded processing and server network technologies.
SSEE Modifications completed factory and shipboard tests in late 2013. The US Navy order advances the programme from development to low-rate initial production.
Dan Marini, SSEE program manager, Boeing, said: ‘The modifications will advance maritime forces’ ability to detect, geolocate and exploit signals sent by potential threats on selected SSEE Increment E and F systems.
‘Meanwhile, our fifth order for the current system will bring SSEE’s real-time capabilities to a US ally for the first time.
Argon ST will begin delivering SSEE Modifications in the next few months; while deliveries of the ten SSEE Increment F Lot 5 systems are expected to begin in mid-2014.
