AUSA 10: US and NATO forces set for satcom upgrade

Thales Communications will begin deliveries of its next-generation satellite communications (satcom) Integrated Waveform (IW) for its AN/PRC-148 JTRS Enhanced MBITR (JEM) to military users by the end of the year, it was revealed at the AUSA annual meeting.

Speaking to Digital Battlespace, Thales officials said they were awaiting certification from the US Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) before they were in a position to deliver the technology. However, they revealed that demonstrations had already taken place with certain US users and potential UK customers in September.

To date, Thales Communications has supplied around 75,000 JEM radios to US forces
