AOC 2019: Backpack EW systems on show

With distributed capabilities a watch-word among the US military in recent months, a number of companies are looking at ways to miniaturise COMINT and SIGINT solutions that will enable the development of backpackable systems.

These systems are utilised by deployed units, providing immediate local-area protection from EW activities as well as providing their own offensive and disruptive capabilities.

One such company is US-based SRC with its Silent Cyclone backpackable system, which is based around the 5986E rugged micro-transceiver already produced by the company. The transceiver has a tuning range of 70MHz – 6 GHz, an RF channel bandwidth of 200kHz
