Lockheed Martin has begun ordering materials for the EDM1 manufacture of its AN/ALQ-248 advanced offboard EW (AEOW) active mission payload (AMP) following completion of the critical design review (CDR) in June.

Delivery is planned for late 2019 with an initial operating capability obtained in 2020.

The AOEW AMP AN/ALQ-248 system is a self-contained EW pod that gives MH-60R/MH-60S helicopters advanced ESM detection and response capabilities.

The system can work independently or with the ship’s onboard electronic surveillance sensor, SEWIP Block 2 AN/SLQ-32(V)6, to detect an incoming missile and then evaluate where it is going to protect ships and fleets. AOEW
