AOC 2011: Electronic Warfare fails to be heard

The former director of the US DoD's Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization (JIEDDO) has warned that the case for EW acquisition is not being fully appreciated by government.

Addressing the AOC 2011 conference in Washington, DC on 14 November, Michael Oates, now VP army systems and SOF programmes at Lockheed Martin, described how industry must 'fashion' a champion in the defence department to ensure the EW voice is heard, especially in light of current fiscal constraints. Oates urged: 'In my opinion, we don't hear the voice loudly.'
