Airbus confident AI will dominate the future of air power

Artificial intelligence (AI) and greater interoperability of airborne and ground based systems will soon dictate the way in which future air combat programmes unfold.

That’s the assessment of Richard Franklin, head of secure communications at Airbus Defence and Space (DS), who suggested at GlobalMilSatCom in London that industry and their respective military customers are ‘tantalisingly close’ to an era of fully connected assets and networks, from which to expand existing mission capabilities.

Franklin made specific reference to the recently announced UK Tempest combat jet programme and the French and German Future Combat Air System (FCAS) partnership, both of which he said are
