AFCEA West 2014: No peace dividend for US military

The US acting deputy secretary of defence, Christine Fox, has warned there will be ‘no peace dividend in the offering’ as the US military rebalances after more than a decade of counter-insurgency operations in Afghanistan.

Addressing the AFCEA West conference in San Diego on 11 February, Fox described a period of uncertainty following over ten years of protracted land wars.

‘Today, we are in the process of transition of preparing the military to counter interconnected threats in the 21st century. Priorities include counter-terrorism, counter-proliferation, strategic deterrents and sustaining alliances,’ she said.
