US general rebuffs Russian offer to facilitate Afghan government-Taliban peace deal
As violent attacks continue to rock Afghanistan, the top US general in charge of allied operations said the Taliban has yet to respond to a proposed three-month ceasefire and rebuffed Russia's offer to get the two parties to sit down at the negotiation table.
US Army Gen Nicholson — commander of the Resolute Support Mission and US Forces Afghanistan — said Taliban leaders have yet to accept or reject the 19 August offer by Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani for a conditional three-month ceasefire.
