The government of Iraq has requested Hellfire missiles and Captive Air Training Missiles from the US under a foreign military sale that could be worth up to $800 million if it goes ahead.

Five thousand AGM-114K/N/R Hellfire missiles and ten 114K M36E9 Captive Air Training Missiles have been requested by Iraq, along with associated equipment and defence services.

According to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, in addition to supporting ongoing combat operations, the missiles will 'contribute to the foreign policy and national security goals of the US by helping to improve a critical capability of the Iraq Security Forces in defeating the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL)'.

If it goes ahead the principal contractor for the FMS will be Lockheed Martin.
