Trump kicks North Korea nuclear can down the road

Even though the ‘Singapore Communique’ was only a basic outline for peace, North Korea specialists were largely aghast by the four non-binding goals signed by North Korean leader Kim Jung-un and US President Donald Trump on 12 June.

Though most agree the meeting was extraordinary in the fact that it was the first summit between a standing US president and a North Korean leader, overall the communique was regarded as ambiguous.

The first goal was a commitment to establish a new diplomatic bilateral relationship that could mean reciprocal embassies. The second was vague in that both would ‘join their efforts
