Taiwan determined to defend itself

Taiwan conducted its annual Han Kuang war games from 22-26 May, a highlight of which was the Republic of China (ROC) Armed Forces repelling a simulated invasion by the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of Penghu Island in the Taiwan Strait on 25 May.

Significantly, this was the first time the Han Kuang exercise - now in its 33rd iteration - occurred under the Ministry of National Defence’s (MND) newly introduced ‘multi-domain deterrence’ strategy rather than the previous one of ‘effective deterrence’.
