Sweden pledges surge in cyber investment

Sweden will improve the cyber defence capabilities of the armed forces under the Total Defence Bill 2021-2025, including measures to enhance inter-service cooperation in this area.

Sweden intends to strengthen the cyber defence capabilities of its armed forces, following guidelines in the Total Defence Bill approved by the national parliament in December 2020.

In particular, steps are being taken to improve co-operation between the various branches of the armed forces.

Gazmend Huskaj, systems science researcher at the Swedish Defence University, told Shephard that reinforcement of the cyber area has already been initiated.

In 2020 ‘the armed forces in close collaboration with the [Swedish Defence] Recruitment Agency and the Royal Institute of Technology, have planned, recruited and are training the first Cyber Soldiers', he remarked.
