S-400 procurement implications come home to roost for Turkey
On 14 December 2020, shortly after the US Senate passed the National Defense Authorization Act, the Trump administration acted on its long-standing threat to implement sanctions against Turkey under the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA).
Sanctions announced by the US Treasury target the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB – the Turkish defence procurement agency) and senior officials associated with the purchase from Russia of the S-400 air defence system (pictured).
Individuals hit by the sanctions include SSB chief Ismail Demir and three of his subordinates.
