Realism should temper hopes of ‘big ticket’ Israel-UAE defence cooperation
A glance at the passenger manifest on the maiden El Al flight from Tel Aviv to Abu Dhabi would have underscored two factors behind the recent normalisation of relations between Israel and the UAE: shared concerns over regional threats and the prospect of lucrative commercial contracts.
The Israeli and UAE defence industries stand to benefit from both, although sanguine attitudes should be tempered by realism.
