UK armed forces fret as review looms closer

Have difficult decisions on intractable problems been delayed too long, as the clock ticks down to publication of the integrated review of UK defence and security capabilities?

The UK government is expected by the end of November to announce the findings of its Integrated Review of Foreign Policy, Defence, Security and International Development, following a lengthy and somewhat tortuous process.

Few expect there to be no change, and significant cuts are likely to be recommended for some parts of the MoD. There has been increasing use of the word ‘sunset’ to signify the ending of legacy capabilities, in part to pay for ‘sunrise’ of new different ones.

What form this will take remains unclear, though.
