Israeli F-35s operating from ‘Gulf soil’ a genuine possibility

New possibilities for Israeli F-35s could be on the way, including the aircraft being fielded from 'Gulf soil' to better counter Iranian threats.

A defence analyst has suggested that Israeli Air Force (IAF) F-35 fighter jets could be deployed from air bases in Gulf states like the UAE and Saudi Arabia in the future.

If such an arrangement was to be introduced, the aircraft would be around ‘an hour away’ from Iranian nuclear sites, the Israeli analyst told Shephard — this would mark a step change in operational planning.

Talk of operational co-operation follows on from the signing of the Abraham Accords which normalised relations between Israel, the UAE and Bahrain, with the UAE approved to buy up to 50 F-35s from the US and
