F-15EX emerges as unlikely USAF hero

Backed by a huge $22.9 billion IDIQ contract from the USAF, Boeing is embarking on a partnership that could ultimately lead to a maximum of 200 F-15EX aircraft being built.

The manufacturer has also been issued with a first production contract worth $1.2 billion for eight of the jets – laudable success for a programme that has been a tough sell and previously left on the periphery of USAF plans.

‘We are very excited to be supplying an advanced version of the F-15 to the USAF after a gap [in production] of several years,’ Prat Kumar, VP and programme manager,
