'Grey zone' operations could benefit from directed-energy weapons

In addition to the benefits that lasers and other directed-energy weapons (DEW) can provide to armed forces in terms of new capabilities, they represent a potentially useful solution for deployment in territories or scenarios that are not clearly defined or covered by international law.

These so-called 'grey zones' demand the use of unconventional forces and systems, according to speakers at the 'Directed Energy's Contribution in the Gray Zone' webinar organised by Booz Allen Hamilton.

Defence experts advocated the use of non-lethal directed-energy systems during the 15 September webinar.
