Coronavirus muscles in on Senate FY2021 budget hearing
The US armed forces need a bigger budget in FY2021, according to testimony on 25 February from senior military officials at a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing.
However, amid the customary discussions on funding and international geostrategic priorities, problems posed by the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus loomed large.
Senators expressed concern that the fast-growing number of coronavirus cases in Europe could affect US service personnel stationed on the continent.
USAF Gen Tod Wolters, head of US European Command and NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe, insisted that measures are in place to protect US personnel and their families.
