Malaysia issues UAV and MPA tenders, amidst acquisition criticisms

26th August 2020 - 20:00 GMT | by Dzirhan Mahadzir in Kuala Lumpur

Malaysia issued two tenders on 25 August for the supply of two maritime patrol aircraft (MPA) and three MALE UAVs. Few details or performance specifications, nor any price, were listed in the tender notifications, but both were titled as ‘Phase 1’, indicating that an additional follow-on buy is intended.

Indeed, four MPAs and 6-12 MALE UAVs have been talked about in the past. The MPA tender closes on 3 December while the UAV tender closes on 26 November. It is expected that an award will occur for each in Q1 2021, assuming the process goes through without any interruptions.
