Insight: PLA bolsters its title to Tibet

The Doklam standoff between China and India in June-August 2017 represented a major spike in tensions between the two powers. It was also a reminder to both militaries that they needed to reinforce their respective forces near the disputed border. In China’s case this refers to Tibet, a high-altitude region with a harsh climate that is not conducive to military operations nor the permanent positioning of large numbers of soldiers.
