The Middle East remains a volatile region with at least four states experiencing violent civil wars, with no end in sight. Low oil prices have also exacerbated an already grim outlook with many countries now fiscally challenged and slashing budgets, including in defence.

We round up some of the key trends likely to influence the proceedings at IDEX 2017, which is being held in Abu Dhabi from 19-23 February.
