Egypt risks US wrath over Su-35 production
Following reports of a first Egyptian Su-35 fighter jet entering production the US government could see fit to take action against its long-standing Middle Eastern ally.
A report on 16 May from Russian news agency TASS, quoting an unnamed military diplomatic source, said that the Gagarin Aircraft Plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur had ‘launched’ production of the aircraft in line with a contract struck with Egypt in 2018, supposedly for seven aircraft.
The source went on to claim that ‘restrictions imposed by the novel coronavirus outbreak’ had prevented a date for a first batch of the jets being set.
