DSA 2016: AIROD signs MoUs for RMAF upgrades

On 20 April, the third day of DSA 2016, AIROD signed MoUs with two foreign companies to propose upgrades for two types of Malaysian military aircraft and helicopters.

One MoU was with BAE Systems covering the upgrade of avionics systems on Hawk jets belonging to the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF). Both the Hawk Mk108 and Mk208 aircraft are included, the air force flying six of the former and 12 of the latter.

The RMAF has not yet announced who will be selected for the upgrade, but Simon Astley, BAE Systems’ head of communications for Asia, told Shephard a decision
