Congress poised to pass 2019 defence bill
US House and Senate conferees emerged from behind closed doors with a compromise to fund the Pentagon with $674.4 billion next year, while padding missile defence coffers and funding three Littoral Combat Ships (LCS) instead of just the one requested.
On 13 September, lawmakers announced that they had reached a deal that would fund the DoD in 2019, as well as other government departments. The legislation will head to both chamber floors for a vote before making its way to the president's desk.
