AUSA Global: Army outlines precision fires initiatives

US Army representatives used this week’s Association of the US Army Global Force Symposium to spotlight efforts underway across the service’s cross functional teams (CFTs). 

Within the long-range precision fires (LRPF) CFT, many of the ongoing initiatives focus on increasing the range of cannon rocket and missile systems.

In terms of longer range systems, GEN Robert Brown, commander of US Army Pacific and ‘senior mentor’ to the LRPF CFT, summarized a need for tomorrows cannons ‘to shoot as far as today’s rockets; tomorrow’s rockets to shoot as far as today’s missiles; and tomorrow’s missiles to shoot to 499 km and
