Athens investing in its air force
A wide-ranging fleet upgrade effort of the Hellenic Air Force (HAF) is set to see an upgrade of significant proportion to its existing Lockheed Martin F-16 Fighting Falcon fleet while Greece has expressed a serious interest in the F-35 fifth-generation fighter.
This large-scale procurement drive happens while Greece is still suffering from serious economic difficulties. In early April the Pentagon acknowledged that it looks at Greece as a potential F-35 customer to place an order in foreseeable future.
Soon afterwards the country’s defence minister, Evangelos Apostolakis, confirmed the country’s serious interest in purchasing the F-35. He told the press that
