Z-18A undergoes high-altitude testing

Pictures of the new Z-18A troop-carrying helicopter undergoing high-altitude testing have emerged on the Chinese internet as the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) looks for a replacement for the older Z-8.

The images released in late December 2014 showed the variant, which is destined for army aviation units of the PLA, undergoing high-altitude testing on the Tibetan Plateau.

The Z-18, built by the Changhe Aircraft Industry Group (CAIG), is a new family of large, military-specification helicopters based on the civilian 13.8-ton Avicopter AC313

The Z-18A is likely to have a performance similar to the AC313, which made its public
