Wireless TOW fired from Cobra

Raytheon has successfully fired a wireless variant of its TOW missile system from a rotary-wing platform for the first time.

The industry-funded firing tests took place at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, in December using a US Marine Corps AH-1W Cobra attack helicopter, which fired two TOW 2A practice rounds.

According to Raytheon, the tests were carried out to demonstrate that a TOW missile with a radio frequency (RF) command link – rather than the traditional wired link – could be fired from a helicopter.
