Washington clears way for Bahrain AH-1Z sale

The US state department has approved a proposed FMS for 12 Bell AH-1Z Vipers to Bahrain, at an estimated cost of $911.4 million. 

Alongside the attack helicopters, a number of other items have been requested by the Gulf state including: T-700 GE 401C enginesAGM-114 Hellfire missiles; and Advance Precision Kill Weapon System II WGU-59Bs. 

'Bahrain will use this capability as a deterrent to regional threats and to strengthen its homeland defence,' the DSCA said in a statement. 

The agency also list Bell and General Electric as the main contractors of the agreement but there is no indication of when
