Vietnam grounds veteran UH-1 fleet

The Vietnamese military grounded its entire Bell UH-1 Iroquois fleet after the crash of an example on 28 January. The craft had taken off from Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport on a training flight, before crashing in farmland.

The accident killed four, including a senior lieutenant colonel. It was reported the crew had attempted to fix a problematic control system before the helicopter crashed eight minutes after take-off.

Lt Gen Vo Van Tuan, deputy chief of general staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, declared all UH-1 craft were grounded pending maintenance checks. Each would be inspected
