Vice-Admiral Crea USCG Opens Shephard Search and Rescue conference and exhibition in Washington DC

Washington DC: Vice Admiral Vivian Crea, United States Coast Guard, in her opening address on the first day of Shephard’s Search & Rescue conference and exhibition, spelled out a general warning that the economic downturn could well result in a corresponding underinvestment in safety equipment and training within the maritime industry.

She said that one of the enduring safely challenges that the USCG was concerned about was that regarding deep sea fisherman. Crea said that a combination of factors including improper training for fishermen, badly maintained safety equipment on fishing boats, the weight of the catch and generally unseaworthy vessels
