UTC reverses furlough plans

United Technologies (UTC) has announced that it will cancel the furloughs it had planned for this week following the US government’s decision to recall most DoD civilians from emergency furlough.

The plan to furlough 2,000 workers at UTC’s Sikorsky unit is not going ahead after Defence Contract Management Agency (DCMA) inspectors were recalled to work, according to a company’s statement released on 6 October.

Production of UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters would have slowed down without the DCMA inspectors on site since they are responsible for auditing and approving operations throughout the manufacturing process.
