USMC receives first CH-53 King Stallion
Sikorsky has delivered the first CH-53K King Stallion heavy lift helicopter to the US Marine Corps (USMC).
The USMC plans to buy as many as 200 CH-53K helicopters to replace its aging fleet of CH-53E Super Stallions. The aircraft was delivered to the USMC’s Air Station New River in Jacksonville, North Carolina, where it will enter into the supportability test plan.
The test plans includes a logistics assessment on the maintenance, sustainment and overall aviation logistics support of the King Stallion. This assessment will also validate maintenance procedures with USMC maintainers for conducting care/upkeep of the aircraft.
The new CH-53K helicopter has been designed to ensure reliability, low maintenance, high availability and enhanced survivability in challenging and remote forward operating bases.
The company expects to deliver the second CH-53K helicopter in early 2019.
