US to sell eight Apaches to Indonesia

The US will supply eight Boeing AH-64E Apache attack helicopters to the Indonesian armed forces, according to an announcement by the Department of Defense. 

Speaking from Jakarta on 26 August, US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel confirmed the sale of the Apaches would go ahead as part of an on-going effort to ‘build Indonesia’s military capability’.  

Worth an estimated $500 million, the new deal includes the Longbow radar, maintenance, and US training and support, although details of the delivery and training timeline are yet to be determined.
