US considers CH-47F aircraft sale
The US State Department is considering a potential foreign military sale (FMS) to Australia for CH-47F Chinook aircraft, related equipment and support worth up to $180 million, it was announced on 21 December.
Australia's request includes three CH-47F Chinook helicopters; six T55-GA-714A aircraft turbine engines; three Force XXI Battle Command, Brigade & Below (FBCB2)/Blue Force Trackers (BFT); three Common Missile Warning Systems (CMWS); three Honeywell H-764 Embedded Global Positioning/Inertial Navigation Systems; and three infrared signature suppression systems.
Defense Advanced Global Positioning System Receivers (DAGR), AN/APX-123A Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) transponders, and other communications systems have also been requested, along with night vision, navigation and supporting equipment.
Australia has requested the CH-47F aircraft to boost its heavy lift capabilities as it retires its CH-47D aircraft.
