US Black Hawks to get Thales i-FMS200
Northrop Grumman has selected Thales to supply its i-FMS200 flight management software for the US Army's UH-60L Black Hawk helicopters, the latter announced on 4 February.
The Thales i-FMS200 software will be embedded in Northrop Grumman's avionics mission equipment package for upgrading the army helicopters. The upgraded helicopter will be called UH‑60V.
Thales and Northrop have been working together over the last three years for the development of a modular, scalar flight management software system to meet the UH-60V upgrade programme requirements. The resulting software, i-FMS200, proved its integration capabilities with Northrop's equipment package in a UH-60L helicopter flight demonstration.
The UH-60V programme will see over 750 Black Hawks modified and upgraded. Northrop will provide a fully-integrated and scalable mission equipment package for the UH‑60L cockpit under this programme. It will replace older analogue gauges with digital instrument displays as well.
