US Army miscalculates number of Apaches needed

Question marks are surrounding the US Army's AH-64E Apache buy after service leaders failed to properly analyse the number of aircraft needed for testing and pilot training, and now the army says it needs an additional 21 aircraft. 

In a recent DoD Inspector General (IG) report that looks into the army's justification for its AH-64E Apache new build and remanufacture procurement quantities, the office said service officials 'could not justify the planned procurement quantities of 85 training, 67 float and 15 test' aircraft.
