US Apaches deployed to Iraq

The Pentagon has deployed Apache attack helicopters to Iraq to protect US diplomatic facilities and personnel, as sectarian violence in the region continues to escalate. 

An additional 200 US troops supported by a detachment of Apaches and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have been dispatched to Baghdad to reinforce security at the US embassy and the Baghdad International Airport, the Pentagon announced on 30 June.
