UN to begin medevac helicopter process

Beginning on 30 August, the UN is to open a formal tender process for the procurement of two SAR/medevac helicopters for its Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), Shephard has learnt.

The move follows reluctance on the part of UN member states to provide their own national military helicopters to the peacekeeping service for use in the west african region. 

Adding to such pressure is the fact that existing civil contracts are due to end shortly for the organisation's rotary fleet of medevac aircraft in Mali.

That fleet consists of three Russian Helicopters' Mil Mi-8 medium twin aircraft
