Ukraine mulls lessons of war

Throughout the military conflict in the breakaway east of the country, Ukraine’s helicopter units have seen occasional successes, but have also suffered painful losses.

The Ukrainian Army Aviation (UkAA) branch and the National Guard aviation service have been actively employed in the strike and air mobility roles. However, poor tactics, obsolete aircraft and a lack of modern self-protection aids were cited as the primary cause for the loss of five Mi-24s and five Mi-8s since the start of the conflict.
