UkrOboronProm is working on a Ukrainian project to produce flexible fuel tanks for the Mi-24 helicopter, the company announced on 20 April.

UkrOboronProm has teamed with the Ukrainian Research Design-Engineering Institute of Elastomer Materials and Products, and Aviakon Konotop Aircraft Repair Plant to produce the fuel tanks under an import substitution programme.

The flexible fuel tanks are made of rubber, making them lighter in weight than regular fuel tanks, more durable and less prone to damage. Each Mi-24 will carry five of the tanks.

Testing for the has tanks shown their compliance with normative and operational documentation. They are currently under trial.
