The UK government has requested a new batch of Hellfire missiles from the US under an $80 million foreign military sale. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified US Congress of the possible sale on 9 November.

The UK is seeking 500 AGM-114R Hellfire II Semi-Active Laser (SAL) missiles with associated equipment, parts and logistical support.

The missiles, with which the UK arms its Reaper and Apache aircraft, will continue British forces’ ability to provide close air support to counter enemy attacks on coalition ground forces in US CENTCOM’s area of responsibility.

If the sale goes ahead the missiles will be sourced from existing US Army stock.
