Dubai 2015: UAE signs for three AW609s

The UAE Joint Aviation Command (JAC) will become the launch customer for the AW609 tiltrotor aircraft in SAR configuration after the signing of an MoU with AgustaWestland.

The announcement marks a ray of light for the programme, which was hit by tragedy when one of two existing prototypes crashed in Italy last month, killing both pilots.

Delivery of the first three AW609s will begin from around 2019, with an option for a further three aircraft also included in the agreement. 

The aircraft will be operated under the umbrella of the National Search and Rescue Centre, which itself was inaugurated
