The DGA delivers the second French Navy EC225
The Directorate General for Armaments (DGA) delivered the French Navy's second search and rescue (SECMAR) EC225 on July 23.
These aircraft were ordered in December 2009 from Eurocopter (EADS) to replace the recently retired Super Frelon long-range SAR helicopters. The two new EC225s will be operated from the Lanvéoc (Finistere) Naval Air Station.
Maritime safety is one of the state missions entrusted to the Navy. In this task, they rescue more than 400 people each year.
To perform rescue missions at sea, the EC 225 SECMAR is equipped with a winch to hoist two people simultaneously, or a stretcher.
Its crew includes two pilots, a winch, a diver and a physician if necessary. Equipped with additional tanks, the EC 225 SECMAR is able to perform a rescue at 250 nautical (465 km) from the coast for up to 15 people.
