Thailand has ordered two Mi-17V-5 tactical transport helicopters at a price of about $40 million, according to details released on 29 September by Russia’s RIA Novosti news agency.

The aircraft are set to join three more helicopters of the same type delivered in February 2011 to the Thailand Army Aviation arm.

Talks on the follow-on purchase started in October 2011 and the contract covering two examples, to be built at Kazan Helicopter, was signed this year.

Russia’s arms export monopolist, Rosoboronexport, which is responsible for the sales of Russian military helicopters abroad, declined to comment on the news.
