Textron to 'roll back' V-280 funding without renewed DoD investment

The prospect of Textron reducing V-280 Valor funding is one certain to happen should the US president's forthcoming budget submission not offer the programme, or its associated FVL initiative, significant increased investment.

Despite success of the Bell manufactured tiltrotor recently reaching flight test speeds of 280kt and the company openly suggesting it is ready to move to a manufacturing phase, the US Army is yet to signal when a switch beyond the current technology maturation phase will begin.

'At this stage we will have no choice but to roll back any funding we put into it [the V-280 programme]
