Sweden to gain GPUs for helicopters
Mobile ground power will be available for Black Hawk and NH90 TTH helicopters
W5 Solutions is to provide helicopter ground power units (GPUs) for Sikorsky UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters and NHIndustries NH90 TTHs operated by the Swedish armed forces.
The mobile GPU has a rating of 50kVA. Delivered on a trailer, it can easily be towed and the design ensures easy loading onto a transport aircraft such as the Lockheed Martin C-130. With its built-in diesel engine, the GPU is completely self-supplying, W5 Solutions noted in a 24 November announcement.
There are 15 Black Hawks and nine NH90 TTHs in the Swedish inventory, according to Shephard Defence Insight.
W5 Solutions CEO Daniel Hopstadius noted on 23 November that the company previously provided GPUs to the Swedish military for use with Leonardo AW109 helicopters.
