State Department paves way for AH-64E sale to Kuwait
Kuwait is poised to become the fourth country in the Middle East to operate the AH-64E Apache Guardian attack helicopter, after the US State Department on 29 December approved a possible $4 billion FMS package.
The potential deal includes eight new AH-64Es plus 16 remanufactured AH-64D variants, plus a wide range of other systems and equipment, such as 22 new and 36 remanufactured T700-GE 701D engines; AGM-114 Hellfire missile launchers; Hydra 70mm M260 rocket launchers; M230El 30mm chain guns; and Longbow Crew Trainers.
The principal contractors associated with the FMS will be Boeing, Lockheed Martin, General Electric, Longbow LLC and Raytheon.
The other Middle Eastern countries to order the AH-64E are Qatar (24 helicopters), Saudi Arabia (72) and the United Arab Emirates (eight), according to Shephard Defence Insight.
